Castello di Tassarolo, Gavi Orsola, 2021

Gavi, also known as Cortese, is known for its floral aromas and light fruit and citrus flavors. This bottle offers up the former as orange blossom and chamomile and the latter as white peach, grapefruit and a hint of lemon. Chill this wine thoroughly to best enjoy it’s fresh, fragrant, and lively flavors. This wine is great enjoyed on its own, but you may also like to pair it with pesto pasta, fish, or vegetarian fair. The label of this brand new Jenny & Francois collaboration is based on one of Andy Warhol’s iconic portraits of Orsola Spinola, a relative of the Castello di Tassarolo owner and winemaker Massimiliana Spinola. As Massimiliana herself tells the story: “Orsola lived in New York for a few years when Warhol was still alive – she collected many American artists’ works because she was passionate about American modern art, but she especially loved Andy’s art. In fact, she was so keen on him that not one, but two portraits of her were painted by Warhol, both still hanging in her house not far from our winery.” In homage to Orsola, one of these unique works of pop art graces the label, and the wine was named after her.
