Domaine Thévenet et fils (Jean-Claude), Bourgogne Rouge (2018)
I loved this bourgogne rouge. It offers up bright fruit and wonderful earthiness. It’s everything I want in a classic Burgundy. This would go really well with lamb, duck, or venison or of course the classic French dishes featuring Burgundy wine coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon.
Details:
The vineyards, planted mostly to Chardonnay but of course saving room for this bottle’s Pinot Noir, are spread among two major appellations: St. Veran and Macon-Villages (Pierreclos). Thevenet also produces a Macon Rouge as well as an outstanding sparkling wine composed entirely of Chardonnay. The grapes for the Macon Pierreclos come from two select parcels: Margot and Chavigne. Not a single drop of wine is sold to négociants.
